IMA Annual Meeting
Porto Cervo, Italy. 24th September 2008.
The International Maxi Association held its annual general meeting in Porto Cervo at the beginning of September, during the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2008. More than 80% of the membership, representing the Cruising, Spirit of Tradition, Racing, Mini Maxi and Wally divisions, attended to approve some important motions, including:
- Complete revision of the IMA Bylaws including a new Division for Cruiser/Racer yachts, which may accommodate yard production boats such as Swans, Southern Winds, Baltics and so on;
- Inclusion in the Mini Maxi Division of two groups: one for racing-oriented boats, including the new STP65 models, and one for cruiser/racer boats;
- Support for superyacht events such as the Boat International Superyacht Regatta;
- Application to ISAF to become a recognized ISAF Class;
- Adoption of the IRC rating system for all IMA Divisions;
- Application to become a member of the IRC Congress;
- Selection of events to comprise the IMA Annual Championship circuit
- Approval of new members.
Regarding the 2009 IMA Calendar (see below), eight events running from April to November have been selected. Six of these events will also be valid as legs of the newly approved IMA Annual Championship.
In addition, a working relationship has been established with the Swan Maxi class, which has elected to include four of the IMA events on its 2009 circuit.
In the meantime, the preparation of the Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Cup, set to depart from Tenerife on 24th November bound for St Maarten, is proceeding with nine boats expected to participate.
