Volcano Race 2015: Race start

The long offshore Volcano Race started today at 13:35 in the waters off Gaeta. The fleet of 9 maxis set sails after a short postponement due to the lack of wind. 400 nautical miles will bring the boats across the Tyrrhenian Sea bound to the Aeolian Islands with its famous volcanic archipelago.

The 2015 'Maxi fleet – with boats ranging in size from 60ft to 100ft -  will follow a course which leaves the islands of Alicudi, Vulcano, Stromboli and Strombolicchio to port, before returning to Gaeta, leaving the island of Capri to port and the finish line mark – in the waters off Gaeta - to starboard.
The Volcano race is organized by the International Maxi Association, in collaboration with the Yacht Club Gaeta E.V.S. and the Base Nautica Flavio Gioia.

Time limit is on Sunday at 6 am, and the prizegiving will take place in Gaeta no later than Sunday May 24 at 11.
