International Maxi Association affiliates with US Sailing

06/04/2010

The International Maxi Association (IMA) has joined US Sailing, the national authority for sailing in the United States, as an affiliate member for the 2010 season. The IMA is an International Class recognized by ISAF. Although most of the IMA events take place in the Mediterranean, many of the members of the association are Americans who compete regularly in the IMA Championship Series held throughout the season in different Mediterranean ports and the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup held annually in Porto Cervo, Italy.

In September 2010, the IMA will be conducting its first World Championship for the Mini Maxi division, all Maxi boats between 60 and 80 feet long. The IMA also administers a Trans-Atlantic race in November of each year from the Canary Islands to San Maarten in the Caribbean.

The affiliation with US Sailing will permit expansion of the IMA schedule to include events in the United States in the future.
