Settimana dei Tre Golfi - IMA Press Release

30/05/2009

On the final day of the Tre Golfi in the waters off Capri, the day showed promise as the wind had shifted to the north and increased to about 15 knots. The fleet departed the harbor an hour early to take advantage of the good sailing conditions. However as the clouds departed exposing the hot sun, the wind diminished and became variable. The race committee delayed the start until the 1430 deadline approached, and then abandon the sailing for the day much to the disappointment of those who had remained in the starting area for over four hours hoping the conditions would change. Once the abandonment signal was displayed, the event was over and the results posted the day previously were the final results for the regatta.

The awards presentation took place at 1630 in the bright sun outside the race headquarters. There were three divisions sailing as part of the International Maxi Association season championship.

In the Mini Maxi Racing Division BELLA MENTE, owned by Hap Fauth, bested ALEGRE owned by Andres Soriano. The result was determined by a decision of the Jury decision to award BELLA MENTE average points for race three since she was unable to finish. ALEGRE was penalized for causing a starting line collision which damaged BELLA MENTE so that she was forced to retire.

In the Mini Maxi Racer/Cruiser Division, OPS 5, owned by Massimo Violati, continued her winning ways beating ITACENTODUE owned by Adriano Calvino. With three wins, OPS 5 topped ITACENTODUE by three points for the regatta. OPS 5 also took home the prize for the first IMA boat duel scored under ORC.

RAN, owned by Niklas Zennstrom, took first place in the 00 Group.
